Specification for Biosafety Cabinet Class II Type A2
Guideline specifications minor variations from this but fulfilling functional requirements will be accepted.
1. Cabinet must be of class II and type A2.
2. Instrument must be of 3 feet size.
3. Cabinet internal dimension must be (W X D X H) :920 x 620 x 650 mm. important specification – big size is not acceptable due to space constraint in the lab
4. Cabinet external dimension must be (W X D X H) :1080 x 845 x 2160 mm. important specification – big size is not acceptable due to space constraint in the lab
5. Net weight and gross weight of the instrument must be less than or equal to 290 and 315 kilograms respectively.
6. Power rating should be 1400VA (±5%)
7. Blower should be of 335W (±5%)
8. Main filter should be ULPA type, with a typical efficiency of at least 99.99% (±0.01%) tested
with 0.12μm particulates.
9. Exhaust filter should be ULPA type, with a typical efficiency of at least 99.99% (±0.01%)
tested with 0.12μm particulates.
10. Airflow circulation should be 70% downflow and 30% exhaust, equipped with hot-bulb air-
velocity transducer for maintenance of constant airflow.
11. Downflow velocity must be 0.33m/s (±2%).
12. Inflow velocity must be 0.55m/s (±2%).
13. Fluorescent light should have an intensity not less than 900 Lux.
14. Cabinet must be equipped with a UV lamp for sterilization purposes.
15. Cabinet should have a 690-900mm adjustable support (±5%).
16. Cabinet must have CE & EN12469 certification.
17. Cabinet must have low noise (<62dBA) and automated energy saving modes of operation,
which must be able to detect absence of human usage for more than a pre-set time, in
order to automatically switch the instrument into energy saving mode.
18. Cabinet must have drop down tempered glass window.
19. Operating platform and internal walls must be of stainless steel 304.
20. Cabinet must be equipped with digital microprocessor control system.
